The primary objective of the Undergraduate Program in Statistics is to educate individuals who possess a solid foundation in statistical theory and methods based on mathematical principles, as well as knowledge in technical fields such as Operations Research, Risk Analysis, Actuarial Sciences, Quality Management, Computer Science, and Statistical Information Systems. Graduates are expected to be capable of developing scientific solutions to problems arising in various application areas. Another important goal of the program is to train qualified statisticians who are proficient in modern concepts such as data mining and big data, and who can effectively use information technologies and statistical software packages for conducting research, planning studies, implementing projects, analyzing data, and interpreting results. Furthermore, the program provides a strong foundation for students who wish to pursue academic and research careers in statistics. In accordance with these objectives, the curriculum includes a comprehensive set of required courses in Mathematics, Statistical Theory and Methods, Operations Research, Computer Programming, and English. The elective course group offers specialized courses directly related to the department’s academic divisions, including Applied Statistics, Statistical Theory, Operations Research, Probability and Stochastic Processes, Statistical Information Systems, and Risk Analysis. The Social Science Electives group includes courses in Economics, Sociology, Law, Philosophy, and Business Administration. Contemporary educational approaches emphasize the importance of students in the natural sciences gaining exposure to the social sciences. Accordingly, students are given the opportunity to take courses from these disciplines, which are offered by the respective departments. One of the most distinctive features of the Statistics Undergraduate Program is the flexibility it provides. Students are able to choose professional electives, minor-area courses, and social science electives according to their individual interests and career goals. This structure allows students the freedom to specialize in areas that best match their aspirations. |
